Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province will hold its 2026 Youth Day celebration across Taebaek on Sept. 18 and 19, marking the statutory holiday — observed on the third Saturday of September each year — with events designed to support the passion and ambitions of young people across the province.
This year's event is themed "Youth Gangwon, Built in Clean Taebaek," with a focus on bringing together young people from across the province to foster communication and exchange.
The program features a youth local-content tour showcasing Taebaek's natural appeal, a youth concert, a Gangwon Youth Award ceremony, food and beverage booths reflecting local character, and hands-on experience programs.
The local-content tour is designed to let participants experience youth-friendly attractions in Taebaek, combining visits to local landmarks with youth networking and hands-on activities. Any resident of Gangwon Province between the ages of 18 and 45 may apply through the Gangwon Youth Portal.
Governor Woo Sang-ho has cited vibrant local content and Gangwon Province's distinctive natural environment as key factors in creating conditions that allow young people to put down roots and build careers in the region.
Woo has also shown a willingness to work across party lines with Taebaek Mayor Lee Sang-ho, responding positively to the mayor's proposals despite their differing party affiliations.
