The Sejong Southern Police Station said Tuesday it had forwarded a suspect identified only as A, a man in his 20s, to prosecutors in detention on assault charges after he choked a stranger and attacked another passerby.

A is accused of approaching a man seated on a park bench in Saneul-dong, Sejong, at around 8 p.m. on Aug. 2 and wrapping his arm around the victim's neck from behind.

The victim's children were nearby at the time. A allegedly threatened the victim, saying, "Move and you're dead."

The children witnessed their father being assaulted and have since reported experiencing trauma.

Earlier the same day, A is also accused of picking a fight with a passerby outside a nearby restaurant and punching him in the face, breaking two teeth.

Neither victim had any prior acquaintance with A.

During the police investigation, A reportedly told investigators he had committed the attacks while drunk and for no particular reason.
