iM Bank announced Friday it donated 30 million won ($21,200) to support the treatment and lifestyle recovery of victims of an arson attack at an apartment complex in Gyeongsan.

The bank held a donation ceremony at Gyeongsan City Hall that day, presenting the funds to help victims and bereaved families recover and return to their daily lives as quickly as possible following the sudden incident.

The arson attack occurred on the morning of July 23 at an apartment complex in Gyeongsan, resulting in casualties. Since then, Gyeongsan city authorities have set up a comprehensive response center and have been working to assist victims with medical treatment and lifestyle support.

iM Bank said it decided to make the donation to share in the hardship of residents affected by the local disaster and to provide practical help toward their recovery and return to normal life.

The funds were drawn from the iM Social Contribution Foundation, which is financed through a 1 percent salary donation program by bank employees. The money is earmarked to cover medical bills, living expenses, funeral costs and psychological treatment for the victims.

"We hope this support will be of some help to those affected as they receive treatment and work toward resuming their daily lives," iM Bank President Kang Jeong-hun said. "iM Bank will continue to fulfill its social responsibilities as a financial institution that stands by and supports the community in times of hardship."
