Singer and actor IU drew attention Thursday after using a song by her former boyfriend Jang Hang-jun as the background music for her latest Instagram post, shortly after news broke of her split with actor Lee Jong-suk.

IU updated her Instagram on Thursday with several photos accompanied by captions including "Hey, long time no see," "Living hard" and "My belated birthday spread."

The post stood out for the sheer volume of images she shared at once — a mix of schedule snapshots, everyday selfies and bare-faced photos that filled the carousel without filter.

What drew particular attention, however, was the background music. IU chose "Byeol-ilEopsi Sanda" ("Living Without Incident"), a track by Jang Hang-jun, her former partner. The two had publicly dated for four years before splitting, with their 11-year age gap drawing attention at the time.

IU went on to begin a public relationship with Lee Jong-suk in 2022 and recently announced their breakup.

Jang Hang-jun, meanwhile, acknowledged a relationship with actor Yun Ga-i in June. The two met through Coupang Play's SNL Korea Season 4 in 2023 and later became a couple. Their 18-year age gap — Jang was born in 1982 and Yun in 2000 — also drew wide attention.
