Seoul's Jungnang-gu district announced Thursday that it has prepared a range of water activity programs for children to coincide with the summer school break.

The multipurpose plaza at Yongma Waterfall Park will host the "2026 Jungnang Children's Water Play Festival" through Aug. 17. The water play area is equipped with 19 facilities — including an air pool and a water slide — along with supporting amenities. A staff of 14, including safety officers, a nurse and an on-site supervisor, will be on hand, with regular checks of water quality and facility conditions.

The facility will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a maintenance break from 1 to 2 p.m. for safety inspections. The event is open to toddlers and elementary school students; toddlers must be accompanied by a guardian.

Myeongmok Station Plaza will host the "Summer Water Festa" for toddlers and elementary school students on July 8 and 9. The event runs in two sessions — the first from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the second from 2:30 to 5 p.m. — and will feature water slides, various hands-on programs and side events.

Jungnang-gu is also operating the Seoul Jungnang Water Park and the Sinnae and Bongsudae Park water play areas through Aug. 16, the Jungnang Camping Forest children's water playground through July 30, and the Woori-dongne floor fountains through July 31.

"We have prepared a variety of water activity programs so that children and families can spend a safe and enjoyable summer close to home," said Ryu Gyeong-gi, head of Jungnang-gu.

The district is also taking steps to combat the summer heat. An air-dome-style outdoor cooling shelter — dubbed the "Jungnang-type outdoor heat refuge" — will operate near Exit 2 of Junghwa Station through Aug. 30, while outdoor refrigerated water dispensers called "Jungnang Ongdalsaem" will be available at nine locations, including parks and along the Jungnangcheon stream, through Wednesday.
