Ulsan's Dong-gu has been named the sole "outstanding institution" from the Ulsan region in the Ministry of Interior and Safety's 2026 disaster management assessment, which evaluated 340 disaster management agencies nationwide — 30 central government ministries, 67 public institutions and 243 local governments.

The assessment, conducted from January through April, measured performance across 35 indicators in six categories: general management, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. Dong-gu received high marks for building proactive preparedness systems and for its capacity to take swift initial action and manage disaster scenes when emergencies arise.

The district also earned strong results in seasonal preparedness inspections for both summer and winter natural disasters, securing an A rating in natural disaster safety.

The outstanding designation brings Dong-gu an institutional commendation along with fiscal benefits including special交付税 grants and prize money.

"We will continue working to prevent the increasingly diverse range of disasters before they happen, in pursuit of our district's goal of building a 'reassuringly safe Dong-gu' where residents can live with peace of mind," District Mayor Cheon said.
