The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will host the 16th Korea-ASEAN Transport Cooperation Forum on Wednesday at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul.

Held under the theme "Moving Together with AI toward the Future of Transportation," the forum will bring together 11 member states, including the Philippines' Department of Transportation as the ASEAN representative, new member Timor-Leste, Indonesia and Malaysia. Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND), the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI), and representatives from academia and research institutions will also participate.

The first day will focus on South Korea's AI-based future transport policies and national strategies, case studies of AI applications in transport services, and ASEAN member states' experience with AI and avenues for cooperation. Highlights will include the ministry's progress on autonomous driving demonstration cities, plans for implementing K-AI City, and AI-based traffic signal optimization. Participants will also discuss future cooperation priorities between Korea and ASEAN and the direction of official development assistance in the transport sector.

On Thursday, domestic companies and the ASEAN delegation will hold business meetings to identify cooperation opportunities in AI and mobility. The group will then visit K-City in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, to observe an autonomous driving test bed that replicates real road conditions.

"AI is the key to solving the challenges facing the transport sector and making mobility and logistics more convenient and efficient," said Hong Ji-seon, second vice minister of land, infrastructure and transport. "As a trusted partner to ASEAN, we will work together to grow and prosper in the future transport sector."

The Korea-ASEAN Transport Cooperation Forum has been held annually since 2010, inviting senior transport ministry officials — at the vice minister and director-general level — from ASEAN member states to promote transport policies and technology and support Korean companies' expansion into overseas markets.
