Employment in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province rose in June from a year earlier, climbing by 4,000 and 2,000, respectively, marking the first increase in two months.
The Honam Regional Data Agency reported Wednesday that the number of employed people in Gwangju reached 786,000 in June, up 4,000 from the same month last year.
The employment rate rose 0.8 percentage points year-on-year to 62.0 percent.
The unemployment rate fell 0.2 percentage points from a year earlier to 2.9 percent.
The number of unemployed dropped by 2,000 to 24,000.
In South Jeolla Province, the number of employed reached 1.018 million in June, up 2,000 from the same month last year.
The employment rate slipped 0.4 percentage points year-on-year to 66.5 percent.
The unemployment rate held steady at 2.5 percent, unchanged from a year earlier.
The number of unemployed also remained flat at 27,000.
