The area around the Hwangnam-dong ancient tomb complex in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, has burst into color with lotus blossoms, offering visitors a fresh summer attraction alongside the popular Hwangni-dan-gil street. According to Gyeongju city officials Tuesday, white and pink lotus flowers have been blooming in succession at the lotus complex near the Hwangnam-dong tombs, drawing residents and tourists visiting Hwangni-dan-gil and Daereungwon. Green lotus leaves frame the white and pink blossoms, adding to the midsummer atmosphere, while the surrounding burial mounds, hanok and the streetscape of Hwangni-dan-gil together create a historical and cultural landscape unique to Gyeongju. The lotus complex's walkable distance from Hwangni-dan-gil has made it a natural add-on for tourists already visiting the street's cafes, restaurants and cultural venues. "The lotus flowers around the Hwangnam-dong tomb complex are a precious tourism resource that adds seasonal beauty to Gyeongju's historical and cultural landscape," Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young said. "We will continue to expand seasonal attractions to build a tourism city that satisfies both residents and visitors."
