Malaysian company incentive tour secured as well
Yeosu has been selected as a host city for the International Conference on Research in Tourism and Hospitality (ICRTH 2027), set to take place next year.
The city joined Sejong University at the ICRTH 2026 conference in Malaysia on July 7 to campaign for the 2027 edition.
As a result, Seoul and Yeosu were jointly confirmed as the 2027 host cities. The main event will be held in Seoul, with a satellite program in Yeosu, both scheduled for July next year.
ICRTH is a prestigious international academic conference that brings together tourism professionals, researchers and industry representatives from around the world to discuss strategies for sustainable tourism and the advancement of the hospitality industry.
The successful bid carries particular significance as it marks the fruition of sustained efforts that began with Yeosu's participation in ICRTH 2025 in the Philippines last year, including support for site visits to Yeosu by key conference officials.
Building on its overseas MICE (meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions) marketing efforts, Yeosu has secured back-to-back international events for next year — the ICRTH academic conference and an incentive tour for a Malaysian health food company — strengthening its standing as an international conference destination.
The city expects the two events to inject vitality into the local economy across accommodation, dining, transportation and tourism, while raising Yeosu's profile as an international MICE destination.
"We will prepare for the events without a hitch to elevate Yeosu's status as an international conference city and work to boost local tourism," a city official said.
