Vieworks, led by CEO Kim Hu-sik, is expanding its machine-vision imaging technology into the golf industry.
The company said Tuesday it has begun supplying golf launch monitors built on the technology to NVisage Technologies, a US golf imaging brand.
A golf launch monitor uses sensors to detect the movement of a golf ball and club, analyzing data on launch angle, direction, ball speed, spin and carry distance. The devices have drawn growing attention as core equipment in the golf market, driven by the rise of data-based instruction and training.
Among the four golf launch monitor models Vieworks has developed, the flagship outdoor model NEO-E uses dedicated software to analyze five types of ball data, eight types of club data and 10 types of trajectory data in real time, delivering results within 0.5 seconds of impact. Beyond ball data, the device visually renders club data — including face angle and club path — so users can intuitively understand their swing.
Face angle refers to the direction the flat face of the club head is pointing at the moment of impact, while club path refers to the direction the club head travels through the hitting zone.
The launch monitor also incorporates technology to minimize solar interference, long considered a challenge for outdoor golf simulators. The company said it precisely synchronizes the camera shutter and peripheral devices at the moment of impact, enabling stable measurement performance even under intense sunlight. The device has also obtained an IP65 rating — the highest for dust and water resistance — allowing it to handle sudden environmental changes.
"We are launching a new project to expand the machine-vision imaging technology we have accumulated over more than a decade across the golf industry as a whole," the company said. "We plan to grow screen golf B2B operations and an all-in-one launch monitor business equipped with analysis software as our two main pillars."
