Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) officially notified the approval of a revised implementation plan for the Sangbong Zone 9 urban redevelopment project on the former Sangbong terminal site on Thursday.
The revised plan incorporates resident-centered design improvements, including an expanded open space around the central plaza, and the project is expected to proceed smoothly on schedule.
The Sangbong Zone 9 site, occupying the former Sangbong terminal grounds, was designated a Seoul Metropolitan Government redevelopment promotion zone in 2015. It has since cleared a series of milestones — receiving its initial implementation plan approval in 2022 and a management and disposal plan approval in 2024 — before completing ground-breaking and resident recruitment. Construction is currently progressing as planned.
The project targets completion in May 2029. A mixed-use complex spanning eight below-ground floors to 49 above-ground floors will rise on the site, reshaping Jungnang-gu's skyline. A cultural facility running three below-ground floors to four above-ground floors will be built on a donated site of approximately 1,569 square meters. The development, combining residential, cultural and commercial functions, is expected to become a landmark for the district and a key hub in Seoul's northeastern corridor.
The revised implementation plan calls for a more efficient layout of retail spaces inside the complex and an expanded open area around the central plaza. The changes are designed to create a more open, accessible public space that both residents and the wider community can use freely, improving spatial utility and convenience.
"The Sangbong Zone 9 redevelopment project is a cornerstone initiative that will drive improvements in Jungnang-gu's residential environment and revitalize the area," District Mayor Ryu said. "We will spare no administrative support to ensure the project proceeds without a hitch, and we will do our utmost to see it completed as a landmark that residents can be proud of."
