The father of Jang Yun-gi — the man accused of the random stabbing murder of a high school girl — has denied charges of evidence destruction.

Inspector Jang appeared before a police special investigation team on Friday and gave testimony about how key pieces of evidence were disposed of, according to Channel A.

Regarding cable ties moved from Jang Yun-gi's SUV to his own home, Inspector Jang said he had simply been tidying up the vehicle — keeping what was worth keeping and discarding the rest.

Prosecutors searched Inspector Jang's home on Tuesday and recovered the cable ties, which had gone missing during the initial police investigation. He is believed to have taken the cable ties from the front passenger storage compartment after taking possession of the SUV from police the day after the May incident.

On the disposal of a sex doll, Inspector Jang was quoted as saying: "Now I understand it was important evidence, but at the time in May, police gave me the home address and the door password, so I thought it was OK to remove it. I just got rid of it without thinking much about it."

He also said he obtained the password to Jang Yun-gi's studio apartment from "a member of the investigation team he had worked with."

Earlier, police had discovered two sex dolls worth several million won during a search of Jang Yun-gi's studio apartment. One of the dolls had damage to the chest and neck area. Inspector Jang disposed of both dolls three days after the police search concluded.
