A woman in her 30s has been booked on arson charges after allegedly setting fire to her apartment while her young child was inside, following a fight with her husband.

The Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said Saturday it had booked the woman, identified only as A, on charges of arson of an inhabited building and is currently investigating the case.

A is accused of setting fire to the bedroom floor of her apartment in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, at around 7:29 a.m. Friday.

A and her 2-year-old son, identified as B, suffered injuries including smoke inhalation and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Neither was in critical condition, police said.

The fire burned part of the floor and some household items before staff from the apartment management office extinguished it in about 10 minutes.

Police said the investigation found that A set the fire in a moment of uncontrolled rage during an argument with her husband earlier that morning.

Police determined that A posed a high risk of further self-harm or harm to others due to her unstable mental state and arranged for her emergency psychiatric hospitalization immediately after she was transported to the hospital.

Police plan to summon A for questioning soon to investigate her motive and other details of the incident.
