More than 200,000 counterfeit condoms made in China have been distributed across Europe, raising alarm over the risk of sexually transmitted infections.

The European Anti-Fraud Office, known as OLAF, said Tuesday that an investigation into fake condoms seized in Romania, Serbia and Spain confirmed the products originated from a single Chinese supplier.

The counterfeit condoms were sold using unauthorized copies of well-known brand names and logos. However, OLAF did not disclose which brands had been copied.

The fake condoms, valued at more than 200,000 euros ($229,000), all came from the same Chinese supplier and were falsely declared as "toys" during customs clearance.

OLAF Director Petr Klement warned that counterfeit condoms are unsafe because they do not undergo testing or quality control, and could contribute to the spread of sexually transmitted infections.

The seized products failed to meet EU quality requirements for medical devices, particularly those related to shelf life, stability and contamination testing.
