Inauguration ceremony for the 9th directly elected district mayor held Tuesday afternoon at Geumcheon-gu Office; new administration vows results over rhetoric, action over promises
Geumcheon-gu held the inauguration ceremony for its 9th directly elected district mayor at the main auditorium of the Geumcheon-gu Office on Tuesday afternoon.
The ceremony drew about 500 attendees, including National Assembly lawmakers, prominent guests, local figures, residents and district staff, marking a new beginning for Geumcheon.
The program opened with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by introductions of distinguished guests, a reading of the president's congratulatory message, guest speeches, a biographical introduction of the district mayor, the oath of office, the inaugural address and a closing celebratory performance.
District Mayor Choi Ki-chan pledged accountability and service to residents in his oath of office, then laid out his vision and governing direction for the 9th term in his inaugural address. He set "A Vibrant Geumcheon Together with Residents" as the administration's overarching goal, expressing his commitment to practical governance built on open communication with the community.
The 9th-term Geumcheon-gu administration has identified six core projects — revitalizing the economy, reimagining public spaces, strengthening welfare, advancing education and culture, improving everyday life and building for the future — and plans to pursue its campaign pledges in each area in phases. On that foundation, the district aims to energize the local economy, raise urban competitiveness and focus its administrative capacity on resolving the everyday concerns that matter most to residents.
In addition, the administration plans to deliver tangible change in residents' daily lives by carrying out five key campaign pledges: a 30-minute commuter city project, building a care system for children and youth, expanding educational opportunities and overhauling the learning environment, resolving quality-of-life inconveniences at the neighborhood level, and strengthening urban competitiveness through redevelopment and reconstruction.
The district also plans to actively introduce innovative and smart administrative practices to raise the quality of public services and improve resident satisfaction through accountable execution.
"Having finally taken office as district mayor of Geumcheon-gu after a long wait, I feel the weight of that responsibility deeply and will do my utmost for the development of Geumcheon and the happiness of its residents," Choi said. "I will be a district mayor who proves himself through results, not just promises — one who gets things done and creates change that residents can feel."
Choi served eight years in the Seoul Metropolitan Council across its 10th and 11th terms, building a track record focused on resolving local issues and improving residents' welfare. He has been recognized particularly for his field-based, community-centered approach to policy and for his strengths in identifying practical projects and delivering on them.
