Jo Min-a, a former member of the K-pop girl group Jewelry, has shared an update on her life, revealing her success as an insurance agent.
Appearing Tuesday on the YouTube channel "Gaegwacheoonseon Seo In-young," Jo opened up about her life as a single mother raising a 6-year-old son and her determination to provide for her family.
Jo said she had been paying off debt since childhood, and that after her divorce she also took on her ex-husband's debts, working from the moment she woke up until she went to sleep.
She drew attention by confessing she had originally considered becoming a "Fresh Manager" — the door-to-door Yakult delivery worker commonly known as "ajumma." She applied after seeing an advertisement promoting support for single-parent households, but quit because the schedule was incompatible with raising a child on her own.
Jo later posted her resume on a job-search website and was contacted by her current company, which led her to become an insurance agent.
She has since risen to the top of the profession. "I have been named insurance champion 22 times and ranked No. 1 nationwide," she said, adding that her annual income runs into the hundreds of millions of won, though the exact amount varies each month because agents work on a commission basis.
Jo also spoke candidly about the challenges of single motherhood. "I think my son might be confused, and because I am on my own, that pushes me to work even harder," she said. "I hope single moms can find strength — I am doing it too. And I am not even receiving child support." She closed with a word of encouragement for others in similar situations.
Jo joined Jewelry in 2002 and left the group in 2005. In November 2020, she announced her marriage and pregnancy and later gave birth to a son. She is currently raising him alone following her divorce while working as an insurance agent.
