Mapo-gu (district mayor Yu Dong-gyun) is accepting slogan submissions for the 19th Mapo-naru Salted Shrimp Festival, set to be held this October.
The contest aims to find an official slogan that captures the identity and character of the Mapo-naru Salted Shrimp Festival.
The festival, which began in 2008, is Mapo-gu's signature annual event. It revives the history and tradition of Mapo-naru — the country's largest salted shrimp trading hub during the Joseon Dynasty — in a contemporary setting.
The festival draws steady crowds of visitors preparing for kimchi-making season, offering high-quality salted shrimp from well-known production regions across the country at reasonable prices.
The contest is open to anyone with an interest in the festival, and entries will be accepted until 6 p.m. on July 12.
Submissions should be slogans of no more than 20 Korean characters. The contest calls for phrases that concisely express the festival's traditional heritage and contemporary appeal, as well as original and creative phrases that spark curiosity and anticipation among visitors.
Those wishing to participate can download the proposal form and personal information consent form from the notice board on the Mapo-gu Office website, fill them out, and submit them by email.
Entries will be evaluated on conciseness, public appeal and clarity through an internal review followed by a judging committee before a final selection is made.
A total of six winners will be selected: a top prize winner will receive a 100,000-won ($65) culture gift voucher, two runners-up will each receive a 50,000-won voucher, and three merit prize winners will each receive a 30,000-won voucher. All winners will also receive a citation from the Mapo-gu district mayor.
The top entry will be adopted as the official slogan of the 19th Mapo-naru Salted Shrimp Festival and used across promotional materials and festival publicity.

The 19th Mapo-naru Salted Shrimp Festival will be held for three days, Oct. 16–18, at Peace Plaza in World Cup Park.
A variety of programs are planned during the festival, including an opening ceremony, a commemorative ceremony, cultural performances, sports events and a marketplace.
