Singer Moon Won has opened up about how public opposition to his marriage to Shinji made him deeply self-conscious in everyday life.

On Monday, the MBN variety program "Nam-ui Jip Gwihan Gajok," a family reality show, released a preview clip titled "Moon Won's Confession: I Was Afraid to Face People, But …"

The footage shows the couple on a trip to Gyeongju.

Moon Won said he drew great encouragement from the warm reception people gave him there. "I had only been going around near my house all this time," he said. "Going far felt scary. There's a cafe open late into the early morning hours. I would go there — somewhere with no people — drink tea and look at the night view. I didn't go to places with crowds."

Shinji also spoke candidly. "I was actually worried," she said. "This was the first time I went somewhere with this many people after the wedding — the first time I could be somewhere where people could approach us directly." She added that the experience gave her strength. "People congratulated us, were happy to see us and wished us well. That meant a great deal to me."

Shinji married Moon Won, who is seven years her junior, in May. Before the wedding, the couple had already been sharing updates about living together through their YouTube channel.
