Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) is inviting the public to submit ideas and suggestions based on their experience riding high-speed trains.

Korail announced Tuesday it will hold the "Next-Generation KTX (EMU-320) Public Idea Contest" throughout July, aiming to incorporate passengers' perspectives into the design of the next-generation KTX.

The next-generation KTX will replace the KTX-1 vehicles that entered service in 2004, with a phased rollout planned from 2032.

Submissions may address on-board facilities, services and safety systems. Participants are free to propose improvements or entirely new ideas in any of those areas.

Korail will review all entries and announce winners in September, selecting about 50 in total. The top prize is 1 million won ($649) in Onnuri gift certificates.

Proposals deemed creative and practical may be incorporated into the development of the new KTX.

Entries will be accepted through July 30 via the Korail website or its mobile app, Korail Talk. Full details are available on the Korail website.

"The trend in rail travel is shifting from simple point-to-point movement to the experience and value of the journey itself," said Jeong Gwang-gyo, Korail's head of sales. "We hope many people will take part in this contest so that the public's ideas can be actively reflected in the new KTX."
