As singer Jang Kiha and actor Yun Ga-i acknowledge their relationship, public attention has also turned to the surprisingly small age gap between Jang and Yun's mother.
On Saturday, Jang's agency Durudu Artist Company and Yun's agency WI Entertainment both confirmed the couple's relationship.
The two met in 2023 on the Coupang Play variety show "SNL Korea Season 4" and began dating. They have been together for more than two years.
The 18-year age difference between Jang, born in 1982, and Yun, born in 2000, has drawn considerable attention. Adding to the buzz, an earlier television appearance in which Yun revealed her mother's age has resurfaced online.
In October 2024, Yun appeared on the MBC variety show "I Live Alone," where she introduced her mother, a painter.
During the episode, Yun shared glimpses of time spent with her mother, who was born in 1977 — making her just five years older than Jang.
Yun also mentioned that her mother is the same age as TV personality Jeon Hyun-moo, who was visibly surprised. "This is the first time a friend's daughter has appeared on the show," Jeon said, drawing laughs from the audience.
In a later October episode, Yun traveled to Gangwon Province to visit her mother, who shared that she had given birth to Yun at age 24. Yun's mother drew attention for her youthful appearance, with the two looking more like sisters than mother and daughter.
Online, many have expressed surprise that Jang and Yun's mother are only five years apart in age.
