Total of 380 million won ($246,000) secured, including national and district funds, for brand development and environmental improvements
The Mukdong Dokkaebi Market alley shopping district in Mukdong, Jungnang-gu, has been selected as a final recipient of the "Promising Alley Commerce District Development Project" under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 2026 Regional Commerce Development Program.
The project aims to strengthen the self-sufficiency and competitiveness of alley shopping districts that serve as everyday hubs for local residents. With the selection, the Mukdong Dokkaebi Market district will receive a total of 380 million won ($246,000) in combined national and local government funding through the end of 2026.
Using the secured funding, the district office plans to develop the Mukdong Dokkaebi Market into a representative lifestyle and cultural commerce district through a range of initiatives: developing a unique brand identity for the district, building a foundation for new businesses, improving the physical environment of the shopping area, and supporting promotional and marketing activities.
The Mukdong Dokkaebi Market alley shopping district is a daily-life-oriented commercial zone with a dense concentration of shops across diverse business categories. Designated as an alley shopping district in February 2024, it has drawn steady patronage from local residents thanks to its quality products and services. Its proximity to Meokgol Station on subway Line 7 and its location adjacent to a densely populated residential area have positioned it as a high-growth commercial zone.
