Official election set for plenary session on Wednesday
The Democratic Party of Korea has confirmed 11 candidates for the inaugural standing committee chair positions of the South Jeolla-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Council.
Elected Democratic Party members of the council held a general assembly at the South Jeolla Provincial Assembly on Friday afternoon to select the 11 candidates.
The confirmed candidates are: Im Hyeong-seok (Gwangyang 1, second term) for chair of the Planning and Finance Committee; Park Seong-jae (Haenam 2, third term) for the Administration and Fire Department Committee; Lee Gwi-sun (Gwangsan 4, second term) for the Future Industry Committee; Ryu Gi-jun (Hwasun 2, second term) for the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee; Park Won-jong (Yeonggwang 1, second term) for the Climate, Environment and Energy Committee; Jin Ho-geon (Gokseong-gun, second term) for the Jobs and Economy Committee; Kang Jeong-il (Gwangyang 2, third term) for the Safety and Construction Committee; Kang Su-hun (Seo-gu 1, second term) for the Roads and Transportation Committee; Hong Gi-wol (Dong-gu 1, second term) for the Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee; An Pyeong-hwan (Buk-gu 1, second term) for the Health and Welfare Committee; and Choe Jeong-hun (Mokpo 4, second term) for the Education Committee.
Earlier, the Democratic Party selected Song Hyeong-gon (Goheung 1, fourth term) as its candidate for inaugural council speaker through an internal primary election.
Jo Seok-ho (Buk-gu 3, third term) was confirmed as the Gwangju-allocated deputy speaker candidate and Kim Mun-su (Sinan 1, third term) as the South Jeolla-allocated deputy speaker candidate. Sin Min-ho (Suncheon 6, third term) was selected as candidate for chair of the Council Operations Committee, and Kang Mun-seong (Yeosu 3, third term) as floor leader.
