Three-sided transparent design keeps children visible during commute

BNK Busan Bank donated 17,000 children's safety umbrellas worth 130 million won ($84,100) to the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education on Thursday. Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Kim Seok-jun, Busan Bank President Kim Seong-ju and Busan Community Chest of Korea Chairman Lee Su-tae attended the handover ceremony.

The umbrellas feature three transparent panels to help children maintain clear sightlines during rainy-season commutes, and reflective strips along the edges make it easier for drivers to spot young pedestrians.

The umbrellas will be distributed to all 17,000 first-grade elementary school students in Busan through the Busan Community Chest of Korea.

BNK Busan Bank has provided traffic safety items for children — including backpack rain covers and safety yellow cards — since 2018. Last year, the bank supplied safety whistles that children could blow in emergencies.

"Children's traffic safety is an important issue that requires the attention and effort of the entire community," Busan Bank President Kim said. "We will continue a range of social contribution activities so that the next generation can grow up in a safe environment."

Superintendent Kim thanked BNK Busan Bank for its attention to children's traffic safety and its support for safe school commutes during the rainy season. "Our office of education will also do its utmost to create a safe learning environment that parents and students can feel secure in," he said.
