Marking 10 years since 'Sharing Angel District' declaration

Regular donations of 1,004 won and one-time gifts of 10,004 won

Nam-gu in Ulsan said Thursday it is launching a one-time donation relay campaign called "Nanumcheonsa, Nam-gu Mansa" (Sharing Angels Solve Everything in Nam-gu) in partnership with the Ulsan Community Chest of Korea. The campaign aims to boost participation in its Sharing Angel fundraising initiative and marks the 10th anniversary of the district's declaration as a "Sharing Angel District."

Nam-gu became the first district in the country to declare itself a "Sharing Angel District" in 2016, launching a regular monthly donation program of 1,004 won. Now, a decade on, the district has built the one-time relay campaign around a donation of 10,004 won — a figure that combines the original 1,004 won with 10,000, playing on the Korean word "mansa," meaning "all matters," to convey the idea of resolving every welfare need in Nam-gu.

To encourage participation among younger residents, the district has introduced a mobile direct-donation system. Residents can join by scanning a QR code printed on leaflets or promotional banners with their smartphones. The one-time donation of 10,004 won — roughly the cost of a lunch — is intended to spread a culture of everyday giving.

Funds raised through the campaign will be channeled through the Ulsan Community Chest of Korea to support tailored welfare programs for residents at risk of dying alone and other vulnerable groups in Nam-gu.
