The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education announced Thursday that Uiseong-gun has been selected as a model operating region under the Ministry of Education's "2026 Outstanding Model Support Project for Elementary School Care and Education During School Breaks."
The Ministry of Education launched the project to address childcare gaps for elementary school students during vacation periods and to provide high-quality care and education services in partnership with local communities.
Local governments and district education offices collaborated to propose care and education models tailored to their regional characteristics. Uiseong-gun was the sole area in North Gyeongsang Province to earn the designation.
The provincial education office plans to build a cooperative framework involving Uiseong-gun, the Uiseong District Office of Education and local care institutions, and to operate a vacation-period elementary care and education program reflecting local conditions.
Centered on the Uiseong District Office of Education, six community child centers and two shared care centers will work together to provide care and education programs for students at all 16 elementary schools in the Uiseong area.
"This selection is a meaningful achievement that recognizes the excellence of North Gyeongsang's model for elementary school care and education — one where schools and the community work together to support children's growth," said Im Jong-sik, superintendent of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education.
