Netflix series holds No. 1 spot on South Korea's Top 10 series chart since premiere
Netflix series "Teach You a Lesson" is carrying its global momentum into a third week, driven by strong viewer attention worldwide.
According to Netflix on Wednesday, "Teach You a Lesson" recorded 11.8 million views — calculated by dividing total watch time by the series' runtime — and 126.2 million hours viewed, retaining the No. 1 spot on the global Top 10 non-English shows chart for a third consecutive week.
International audiences continue to respond strongly. The series topped charts in 19 countries, including South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia, and appeared in the Top 10 lists of 85 countries.
The series debuted at No. 1 globally in its first week, signaling strong early momentum. In South Korea, it has held the top position on the Top 10 series chart since its premiere. In its second week, it ranked first in the TV and OTT combined drama category on GoodData Corporation's Fundex buzz index. In its third week, cast members swept the upper ranks of the same index's individual performer chart.
Released June 5 and based on a webtoon of the same name, "Teach You a Lesson" follows a fictional agency called the Teachers' Rights Protection Bureau as it uses unrestricted means to crack down on violations of teachers' authority and disruptions to students' right to learn — all within a school environment where no social or institutional remedy has proven effective. The series stars Kim Mu-yeol, Lee Sung-min, Jin Ki-joo and Pyo Ji-hoon.
The series has drawn wide praise for its unflinching portrayal of the crisis facing public education — eroded by the collapse of teachers' authority and violations of students' right to learn — while delivering cathartic satisfaction through the bureau's no-holds-barred, eye-for-an-eye approach to justice.
