Kang Dae-gyu takes gold in the 92kg class; Jung Yong-seok and Park Jun-ho claim bronze at the Yang Jeong-mo Olympic Victory Memorial 51st KBS Cup National Wrestling Championships in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon Province
The Guro-gu district office wrestling team won one gold medal and two bronze medals at the Yang Jeong-mo Olympic Victory Memorial 51st KBS Cup National Wrestling Championships, held in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon Province, the district announced.
The Korea Wrestling Federation, KBS and the Gangwon Province Wrestling Association host and organize the tournament, with Yanggu-gun, the Yanggu-gun Council and the Yanggu-gun Sports Foundation serving as sponsors. It runs seven days, from June 12 through June 18, at the Yanggu Culture and Sports Center in Yanggu-gun.
A six-member delegation — one coach and five athletes — represented the Guro-gu district office wrestling team, competing over two days, June 13 and 14.
Kang Dae-gyu finished first in the 92kg class to claim the gold medal. Jung Yong-seok took third in the 70kg class and Park Jun-ho third in the 125kg class, each earning a bronze medal.
Kang advanced to the final by defeating Yoo Seong-yeop of the South Jeolla Province Athletic Association 7-3 in the semifinals, then won the gold by walkover in the final.
Park Jun-ho, newly recruited to the team this year, beat a competitor from the Incheon Environmental Corporation 4-0 in the second round of the 125kg class on his way to bronze, adding to the squad's medal haul.
The team said the tournament confirmed strong chemistry between returning athletes and new recruits, and that it plans to continue systematic training aimed at a top finish at the upcoming President's Cup National City and Provincial Wrestling Championships.
Guro-gu District Mayor Jang In-hong said the wrestlers had delivered a proud result at a national-level competition. "Newly joined athletes are adapting quickly and adding to our competitiveness," he said. "We will provide a stable training environment so the team can keep achieving strong results in the competitions ahead."
