A couple with a 17-year age gap who have struggled through miscarriage and a premature birth are set to share their story — and the disagreement it has sparked over having a second child.
The pair will appear on Sunday's episode of KBS Joy's "Ask Us Anything," where they open up about the conflict over a second pregnancy.
The husband, 51, and his wife, 34, are in their third year of marriage. Despite repeated difficulties with childbirth, the wife says she wants a second child and hopes to persuade her husband.
The two met at a drum hagwon, where he was an instructor and she was a student. They grew close as he listened to her troubles, and the relationship naturally developed into a romance.
At the time, the husband was candid about his previous divorce and his child from that relationship. The wife said she accepted his past and chose to continue the relationship.
Marriage, however, brought difficult times. The couple suffered a miscarriage in their first pregnancy, and their second ended in a premature birth that required a long period of treatment and recovery.
The husband said fear of going through the same pain again has led him to oppose having a second child, leaving the couple unable to bridge their difference of opinion.
After hearing their story, panelist Seo Jang-hoon offered practical advice. "Building a happy family is a wonderful thing, but I think this is a decision the two of you need to make carefully together, taking your real circumstances into account," he said.
