Most of South Korea will see showers Sunday, with the exception of some southern regions. Strong rain accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning is forecast for central regions and inland areas, and authorities are urging the public to take extra care when venturing outside.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, showers are expected across the Greater Seoul area, Gangwon Province's inland areas, the Chungcheong provinces, North Jeolla Province, northern South Jeolla Province and North Gyeongsang Province's inland areas — all except the Yeongdong coast of Gangwon Province. Atmospheric instability is expected to intensify, with hail possible in some areas.
Forecast rainfall totals stand at 5 to 50 millimeters for the Greater Seoul area, 5 to 30 millimeters for Gangwon Province's inland areas, 5 to 50 millimeters for the Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces, and 5 to 30 millimeters for North Gyeongsang Province's inland areas. The Greater Seoul area could see particularly intense bursts of around 20 millimeters per hour.
In areas receiving rain, sudden heavy downpours may sharply reduce visibility and make roads slippery, raising traffic safety concerns. Showers may also bring gusts and lightning, so residents should take care to secure outdoor structures and facilities.
Temperatures will run slightly above seasonal norms. Morning lows are forecast between 14 and 20 degrees Celsius, with afternoon highs of 25 to 31 degrees Celsius. Even areas that escape the rain will see heavy cloud cover and generally overcast skies.
Dense fog is expected in some areas along the west coast.
