Certification meets basic security requirements for participation in US Navy MRO projects

K-Shipbuilding announced Friday that it has become the first mid-sized shipyard in South Korea to obtain Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Level 1 from the US Department of Defense.

CMMC is a regime under which the DoD evaluates and certifies the information security capabilities of supply chain companies worldwide that participate in the US defense industry. It is a core cybersecurity certification required for entry into the US defense procurement market and for participation in US Navy ship maintenance, repair and overhaul projects.

The Level 1 — or foundational — certification confirms that K-Shipbuilding has cybersecurity systems in place to protect federal contract information, satisfying the basic security requirements for participation in US Navy ship MRO projects.

"This certification is official recognition that we have met the stringent security standards set by the US Department of Defense," the company said, adding that it plans to move forward with US Navy ship MRO projects in earnest while pursuing CMMC Level 2 certification in stages. K-Shipbuilding has also completed its application for a Master Ship Repair Agreement with the US Navy and is working through that process.
