A man in his 30s is in critical condition after ingesting an unknown substance at the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office's Seongnam Branch.

According to police, the man — identified only by the surname initial A — swallowed an unidentified substance at the branch office, located in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, around 1 p.m. Wednesday and was taken to a hospital.

A was found unconscious at an outdoor rest area for visitors outside the prosecutors' building after consuming a large quantity of an unknown substance.

A witness called emergency services, reporting that "a person has collapsed and is rolling on the ground." Paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators said A arrived at the prosecutors' office around noon and wandered through the parking lot and surrounding areas before moving to the visitor rest area, where he ingested the substance. A note found at the scene expressed despair over his personal circumstances and dissatisfaction with the investigation.

A, a victim in a medical law violation case, had recently filed a complaint with prosecutors even after the perpetrator was indicted, claiming others had suffered the same harm.

Police said they plan to investigate the full circumstances of the incident.
