Partners Jan De Nul of Belgium and Boskalis of the Netherlands to collaborate on HVDC projects

Daehan Electric Wire signed separate memorandums of understanding with Belgium's Jan De Nul and the Netherlands' Boskalis on Wednesday (local time) at the Korea-EU Energy Transition Cooperation Forum in Brussels, committing to collaborate on high-voltage direct current submarine cable projects.

South Korea's Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy organized the forum on the occasion of President Lee Jae Myung's state visit to the EU. Daehan Electric Wire was the only South Korean company to sign an MOU at the event, laying the groundwork for concrete business cooperation.

Jan De Nul and Boskalis hold strong global positions in offshore wind, marine infrastructure and submarine cable installation. Both companies draw on extensive experience in large-scale offshore energy projects to pursue a wide range of ventures across Europe and other international markets.

Through the agreements, Daehan Electric Wire plans to expand cooperation in HVDC submarine cables and related infrastructure, and to jointly explore new business opportunities in the energy transition market.

"This agreement is expected to strengthen the global competitiveness of South Korea's power and energy industry, enhance our technological and business capabilities in HVDC grid systems, and help raise the profile and role of Korean companies on the world stage," said Song Jong-min, vice chairman of Daehan Electric Wire. He added that the company would continue to pursue global submarine cable and power infrastructure opportunities, leveraging its accumulated technology, quality and international network.

Meanwhile, Daehan Electric Wire is building a second submarine cable factory in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, capable of producing 640-kilovolt-class HVDC cables to bolster its HVDC business. The facility is targeted to begin operation next year.
