The South Korean government said Thursday that one South Korean vessel has passed through the Strait of Hormuz and is currently in transit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the transit arrangements were led by a foreign-nationality charterer, and that the vessel is heading to a third country as its final destination.

"We have been emphasizing to Iran the need for all vessels to navigate the Strait of Hormuz swiftly and safely, and we are in ongoing communication with relevant countries in this regard," the ministry added.

With the vessel's passage, the number of South Korean ships waiting inside the Strait of Hormuz fell from 25 to 24.
