Certificate of election presented Wednesday … 'I will serve with humility and give my all for Gangbuk's development'
Jung Chang-su, the district mayor-elect of Gangbuk-gu, received his certificate of election from the Gangbuk-gu Election Commission on Wednesday.
The Gangbuk-gu Election Commission held a certificate presentation ceremony for the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections and formally presented the certificate to Jung.
"I regard this certificate not as a trophy of victory, but as a solemn mandate from residents to dedicate myself to Gangbuk-gu's development and the happiness of its people," Jung said after receiving the certificate.
He added that he would "carry deep in my heart the precious voices of residents I heard on the ground during the campaign" and pledged to "do my utmost to live up to the expectations and support you have shown me."
"I will be a district mayor of unity — a district mayor for everyone," he said. "I will communicate with humility, keeping my eyes only on the residents, and repay their trust through hands-on administration."
Jung is a fiscal and budget expert who previously served as director of the Narasallim Research Institute. He has also served as head of the disaster safety division of the Ministry of Planning and Budget's fiscal program performance evaluation team and as a visiting professor at Kyonggi University's Graduate School of Public Administration.
His key campaign pledges include pushing for a direct southern extension of the Shin Gangbuk Line to Gangnam, establishing a rapid-support task force for Gangbuk-style urban renewal projects, converting the Ohyeon transfer station site into a park and developing a combined North Seoul sports and cultural center, redeveloping Bukseoul Dream Forest, and pursuing the construction of a Seoul Metropolitan Gangbuk Children's Hospital.
One Gangbuk-gu resident said Jung, who won what is widely described as a "parachute nomination," should approach not only residents but also district office staff with an even greater degree of humility.
