A shaman's prediction of a breakup between actor Jeong Kyung-ho and Girls' Generation member Sooyoung, made six months ago, is drawing renewed attention online after the couple confirmed they had ended their 14-year relationship.
Jeong Kyung-ho's agency confirmed the split on June 9, saying it was true that he and Sooyoung had broken up and that their busy schedules appeared to have been a factor. Sooyoung's agency said the two had agreed to remain good colleagues after the breakup.
As news of the split spread, a blind fortune-telling video posted last December by shaman Myeongdoryeong on the YouTube channel "Good Shamans" began circulating rapidly across online communities. In the video, Myeongdoryeong read the couple's fortunes using only their dates of birth.
"It seems they have dated for a long time and are comfortable with each other like friends, but I don't see a marital bond between them," Myeongdoryeong said in the video. "It would be difficult for the relationship to lead to marriage, and a sign of separation is coming in — I think they will part ways before long."
The shaman added a more specific analysis: "The woman wants marriage, but the man seems to be avoiding it, not rushing due to family issues or similar concerns." Myeongdoryeong also offered an outlook for after the breakup. "If they do split, the man's marriage will be delayed, but the woman has people waiting for her — a marriage proposal from someone else will come soon after the separation," the shaman said.
Jeong Kyung-ho and Sooyoung began dating in 2012 and had long been celebrated as one of the entertainment industry's most enduring couples. Sooyoung is set to take the stage in the play "The Merchant of Venice" on July 8, while Jeong Kyung-ho continues filming the drama series "Hokha-neun Romance," scheduled to air next year.
