Bonghwa-gun in North Gyeongsang Province won an excellence award at the 2026 Agrifood Export Policy Evaluation for cities and counties, organized by North Gyeongsang Province at the North Gyeongsang Agrifood Industry Expo held June 5 at EXCO in Daegu.

The county aggressively pursued overseas markets in the United States, Japan and Taiwan for fresh produce — including apples and flowers such as lilies — as well as processed agrifood products like kimchi made from locally grown ingredients. The push drove a 53.3 percent increase in agrifood exports compared to last year.

The award recognized the county's consistent efforts to diversify its export lineup and expand into global markets even as farmers and businesses faced mounting operational difficulties amid soaring logistics costs driven by war, volatile international oil prices and rising labor expenses.

"We will strengthen export competitiveness through active support — diversifying export items and markets, expanding full-cycle export support, and resolving obstacles to overseas certification — to build a foundation for K-agrifood to break through export barriers and reach the world," Bonghwa-gun Mayor Park Hyeon-guk said.
