Daihan Shipping and KLCSM, shipping affiliates of SM Group, conducted an industrial accident prevention education program for their partner companies, aiming to strengthen on-site safety management and spread a shared safety culture.

The two companies held the "2026 First-Half Partner Company Safety and Health Education" session at KLCSM headquarters in Jung-gu, Busan, on June 5, they announced Tuesday.

A total of 65 executives and employees from 52 partner companies nationwide attended. Daihan Shipping and KLCSM hold the training twice a year — once each in the first and second halves — to share safety and health information and reinforce industrial accident prevention systems.

The program centered on practical, field-applicable content. Key topics included summer heat illness prevention and response, a CPR session led by an instructor from the Busan Jungbu Fire Department, and a review of major industrial accident cases and court rulings under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.

The heat preparedness segment covered the causes of heat-related illness, emergency response procedures and workplace prevention guidelines. The CPR session focused on building participants' ability to respond in the critical early moments of an emergency. Attendees also examined specific industrial accident cases — including fires — to identify on-site risk factors.

The Serious Accidents Punishment Act has placed greater shared responsibility on both prime contractors and their partners for safety management, raising the stakes for partner-firm safety education. Smaller partner companies in particular often struggle to build adequate safety and health management systems due to limited dedicated staff and budgets.

Daihan Shipping and KLCSM said they plan to continue providing partner companies with safety and health information and consulting, and to sustain field-focused prevention activities.

"We have consistently strengthened our mutual cooperation framework with partner companies by operating a dedicated safety and health organization and a safety and health management system as part of our ESG — environmental, social and governance — management practices," a Daihan Shipping official said. "We will devote every effort to creating safe working environments and preventing industrial accidents, recognizing that safety is a core value directly tied to sustainable growth."
