Community and rest space for people with disabilities and their caregivers opens Monday
Tailored programs include screen park golf, yoga and dementia-prevention brain training
Yeongdeungpo-gu has opened a new disability rest center in Dorim-dong (12 Doshinro 29ga-gil) to support social participation and community engagement for people with disabilities while providing a dedicated rest space for their caregivers and support workers.
The center is designed as a community space where people with disabilities can enjoy leisure activities and strengthen peer support networks, as well as a place of respite for caregivers. District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon held an opening ceremony Monday, attended by local disability organizations and residents.
The facility spans 260 square meters across two above-ground floors. It features a screen park golf bay to expand access to recreational sports for people with disabilities, along with a multipurpose program room and lounge areas for a range of leisure activities. The center operates weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The center will also run tailored programs designed around the needs and characteristics of different disability types.
Core offerings include screen park golf, a harmonica class, a darts class, silver yoga, a senior autobiography writing workshop and film screenings. The district office plans to expand the lineup in stages to include dementia-prevention brain training, safety education by disability type, lifestyle safety education and peer support group assistance.

The district office earlier opened a dedicated visual impairment rest center inside Ace Hitech City 2 in Mullae-dong in 2023. That facility, reserved for registered residents with visual impairments, offers cooking classes, Pilates, and tea ceremony and literature classes; it served a total of 1,271 visitors last year.
Drawing on its experience running the visual impairment center, the district office intends to develop the new facility into a space that supports social participation and community connection for people with disabilities while also providing rest for their caregivers.
"I hope the newly opened disability rest center becomes a warm gathering place for learning and connection for people with disabilities, and a place of comfort for their families and caregivers," District Mayor Choi said.
