Damyang-gun held a ceremony at Damyang Peace Arts Square on June 6 to mark the 71st Memorial Day, honoring the sacrifice and dedication of patriots and fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the country.
The ceremony included a wreath-laying and incense offering, a commemorative address, a poetry recitation, a roll call tribute titled "Calling the Heroes Again," a memorial performance and a communal singing of the Memorial Day anthem.
A highlight was the roll call segment, in which students from Damyang High School read aloud the names of fallen soldiers one by one, pausing to reflect on gratitude and respect for those who served the nation.
In his address, Damyang-gun Mayor Jeong Cheol-won said the freedom and peace enjoyed today were built on the noble sacrifice of patriots and fallen soldiers, and pledged to do his utmost to honor and support veterans and their families.
