YouTuber Eun Hyeon-jang has accepted an apology from Ko Sang-rok, the attorney representing actor Kim Soo-hyun, saying the situation now calls for everyone to "join forces."
On Wednesday, Eun posted a message on his YouTube channel saying Ko had previously published posts that made people uncomfortable — people who had been helping with Kim Soo-hyun's case. "Honestly, it felt like I was being subtly put down," he wrote. "But I held back and said nothing at the time."
He went on to say that everyone must now work together. "The war is just beginning," he said. "There are trials still ahead and a mountain of things to be done."
Eun added that Ko's earlier posts had made him even angrier precisely because Ko was not a stranger. "If it had been someone I didn't know, I would have just ignored it and moved on," he said. "But because he is someone running toward the same goal, I felt everything had to be addressed at least once."
Earlier that day, Ko had posted on social media expressing deep gratitude to everyone who had spoken up to clear Kim Soo-hyun's name and worked to verify and publicize the facts through reporting and investigation.
Ko said he recognized that he had failed to fully empathize with the pain and suffering of those who had been harmed and had worked hard over a long period of time, and that his words and actions had caused hurt. "I sincerely apologize for that," he said.
He added that his recent posts about Eun Hyeon-jang in particular had caused hurt and discomfort not only to Eun but to many others. "I deeply apologize for this, and I will delete all related posts effective today," Ko said.
In response, Eun said he was grateful for the sincere apology and would no longer speak about Ko. "Let's each do what we need to do from our own positions, working toward the same goal," he said.
Police send Garosero Research Institute head Kim Se-eui to prosecutors in detention over Kim Soo-hyun defamation charges
Meanwhile, Seoul's Gangnam Police Station has transferred Kim Se-eui, head of the Garosero Research Institute, to prosecutors in custody on charges including defamation of actor Kim Soo-hyun. Police said Thursday that Kim also faces charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, including filming and distributing content using cameras or similar devices.
Kim is accused of claiming at press conferences and on YouTube between March and May last year that Kim Soo-hyun had dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor, and that pressure from Kim Soo-hyun's side to repay debts was the cause of her death. He also faces charges of using AI to fabricate audio recordings attributed to the deceased.
Kim appeared before the Seoul Central District Court on Monday for a detention validity hearing, after which he spoke to reporters, argued for his release and denied the charges.
