People Power Party Yangcheon-gu district mayor candidate Lee Ki-jae held a joint campaign rally with Seoul mayor candidate Oh Se-hoon, pledging to develop the area around Mokdong Stadium and its flood-retention basins into a "Mokdong MICE complex." Lee said the two had already commissioned a feasibility study for the project, which envisions a future hub for the city's southwestern corridor featuring a luxury hotel, convention facilities, cutting-edge office space and a sports park. He added that the Mokdong Stadium area would also undergo remodeling to include a domed baseball stadium, an ice rink and a general athletics complex.

Speaking at a joint rally in front of the Hyundai department store in Yangcheon-gu on April 30, Lee said Oh's "fast-track integrated planning" policy had allowed Mokdong reconstruction to advance rapidly. "A project that was expected to take more than 10 years was able to get on track in just four years — the result of close cooperation between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Yangcheon-gu," he said. The rally marked the second time Lee and Oh had campaigned together in Yangcheon-gu within a week, following a joint visit to the Sinjeong and Sinwol areas on May 23.

Lee also promised to redesign the long-sought Mokdong Line as a T-shaped route to improve its economic viability. "This is a project that can only succeed with Seoul and Yangcheon-gu working together, so Oh Se-hoon and Lee Ki-jae — who started it — will see it through to the end," he said. He urged supporters to win the June 3 local elections "to protect Seoul, protect Yangcheon and protect the Republic of Korea."

Oh, in turn, praised his running mate. "Lee Ki-jae is a proven district mayor who has worked diligently over the past four years to resolve Yangcheon-gu's long-standing challenges," he said. "Lee Ki-jae and Oh Se-hoon will join hands and make sure Yangcheon's development and Seoul's development are fully realized."

Lee, who is seeking a second term as Yangcheon-gu district mayor, previously served as an aide to former lawmaker Won Hee-ryong. Before winning the district mayorship in the eighth round of popular elections, he held posts as a presidential secretary at Cheong Wa Dae, a policy aide at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and head of the Seoul office of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
