Field-focused exercise at landslide-prone site tests emergency response systems
Seodaemun-gu recently held a resident evacuation drill at a landslide-prone area near 454-2 Hongjae-dong to prepare for landslides triggered by extreme rainfall from monsoons and typhoons.
The exercise was designed to build residents' disaster-response capabilities and strengthen the district's ability to get ahead of increasingly frequent localized downpours.
The drill simulated a landslide warning scenario: officials convened an emergency assessment meeting and ordered an immediate evacuation, after which residents moved swiftly to the designated shelter at the Hongjae 3-dong Community Service Center, where they received safety education on landslide response.
The exercise emphasized hands-on experience with proper conduct and evacuation procedures in the event of a landslide, and also tested coordination with police and other relevant agencies.
The district is stepping up its summer natural-disaster prevention efforts through regular on-site inspections of landslide-vulnerable areas and maintenance of erosion-control facilities, including drainage channel upkeep.
Seodaemun-gu said it is committed to securing resident safety and reinforcing its disaster-response systems, operating under the principle that early action and rapid evacuation are paramount when a landslide strikes.
