Actor Son Tae-young, now in her seventh year of living in the United States, has opened up about her ongoing struggle with English.

On Sunday, Son uploaded a video to her YouTube channel titled "What happens when veteran mom Son Tae-young holds a newborn for the first time in a while."

In the video, she sat down for a meal with her longtime English teacher and shared updates on her life.

Son was candid about the challenges of learning the language. Her English teacher said English is genuinely difficult and slow to improve, but that consistent use is key. Son agreed, saying the large Korean community in her New Jersey neighborhood means she can get by without speaking English at all.

"I need it when I go to the kids' school or attend parent meetings," she said. "It would be great to get better, but the problem is it's not improving. I'm not using it, so it's not getting better."

Her teacher suggested that the best way to learn English is through romance — "that's how people originally learn it" — to which Son quipped, "Maybe in my next life," drawing laughter.

Son also joked that if her future daughter-in-law or son-in-law turned out to be a foreigner, she would have to intervene. "I'd tell the daughter-in-law not to come," she said.

On a more reflective note, Son said she considers multilingualism a true asset. "If I were born again, I would really want to study languages hard," she said.

Her teacher advised that the important thing is to keep talking, even by mixing English and Korean. "It's fine to just throw English words in," she said.

Meanwhile, Son and actor Kwon Sang-woo married in 2008 and have a son and a daughter. Son has been living in New Jersey for their children's education.
