Daejeon VP studio to expand LED wall, upgrade UHD production system
CJ Olive Networks has won two contracts from the Korea Creative Content Agency to upgrade content production infrastructure. The company plans to expand a virtual production studio and build out an ultra-high-definition video production system to improve the production environment for small and midsize production companies and independent creators.
CJ Olive Networks announced Monday that it had secured contracts for two projects commissioned by the Korea Creative Content Agency: an expansion of the virtual production studio at Studio Cube in Daejeon, and an upgrade of the UHD post-production system at the DMS Broadcasting Production Center.
Both projects aim to give small and midsize production companies and independent creators access to state-of-the-art video production equipment.
Under the first project, the main LED wall at the Daejeon Studio Cube virtual production studio will be expanded to 18.5 meters wide and 8 meters tall. The ceiling LED display, previously divided into three separate panels, will be integrated into a single unified screen, and an omnidirectional real-time tracking system for performers will also be introduced.
At the DMS Broadcasting Production Center, the UHD post-production system will be overhauled. Aging equipment used for video editing, storage and transmission will be replaced, and a full UHD production environment will be established to meet the technical delivery specifications required by global OTT platforms.
The Korea Creative Content Agency expects the projects to allow small and midsize production companies and creators to access large-studio-level facilities, cutting both production costs and turnaround times.
CJ Olive Networks also plans to use the contracts as a springboard to expand its AI transformation business in the broadcasting and media sector, extending into AI-based transmission and archiving, AI-driven content remastering and AI-assisted broadcasting.
"Infrastructure that gives every creator access to the latest production technology is essential to sustaining the global growth of K-content," said Shin Bong-ho, head of broadcasting and media at CJ Olive Networks. "We will use CJ Olive Networks' broadcasting and media AI transformation technology to turn the Korea Creative Content Agency's creator support policy into real on-the-ground results, and to build the foundation for creators' ideas to grow into globally successful IP."
Meanwhile, CJ Olive Networks posted sales of 224.2 billion won ($167 million) and operating profit of 16.5 billion won in the third quarter of this year, up 9.7 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively, from the same period a year earlier. Growth in its smart-space AI transformation business — including its AI factory and visual effects studio operations — contributed to the earnings improvement.
