People Power Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won strongly criticized the so-called "fabricated indictment" special prosecutor act, passed by the Democratic Party-led National Assembly, calling it "an outrage against all humanity."

In a Facebook post Sunday, Na said the act reflected "President Lee Jae Myung and his Democratic Party group with not even a shred of conscience," questioning whether "the shared interest is that President Lee avoids prison and the Democratic Party avoids returning 43.4 billion won ($32.3 million) in presidential election expenses."

"What sin against history do they wish to commit by carrying out such an outrage against all humanity?" Na said. "They have dismantled the prosecution and thrown the entire judicial order into chaos — and on top of that, they want the very prosecutors to reinvestigate cases involving the president himself?"

Na also said it was "a black comedy" that even former Rebuilding Korea Party leader Cho Kuk had pointed to the act's unconstitutionality.

Na said, "Can the country fall apart just because we elected the wrong president?" adding that "public anger is boiling over" and there was no more time to wait. "The court must swiftly resume the trial of defendant Lee Jae Myung in accordance with the Constitution and the law," Na said. "And a presidential election must be held again under the Constitution."

Na urged that "the last remaining shred of judicial independence must now allow the judiciary to save the country," saying that would be "at least the appearance of a state in which constitutional order still functions."

Meanwhile, the fabricated indictment special prosecutor act — which would investigate allegations of fabricated investigations and indictments by prosecutors during the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, including cases related to President Lee — passed the National Assembly's plenary session Friday, led by the Democratic Party.

The bill, formally titled the act on the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of fabricated investigations and indictments by state agencies including the prosecution, the National Intelligence Service and the Board of Audit and Inspection under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, passed with 167 votes in favor and one against, out of 168 members present.

People Power Party lawmakers did not participate in the vote, and Reform Party lawmaker Lee Ju-young cast the sole dissenting ballot.
