The Korea Federation of Banks will launch its chairman candidate recommendation committee Tuesday, kicking off the formal process to select the industry's top representative.

The federation notified its member banks Friday that the committee's first meeting is scheduled for Nov. 10, according to banking industry sources. The time and venue will not be disclosed.

The opening session is expected to cover procedural rules, including the selection process and voting requirements. However, member banks could also submit candidate nominations at that meeting.

The committee will narrow down the candidates put forward by member banks. Once a single finalist is chosen, the federation will hold a general assembly to elect the new chairman.

Among those currently being mentioned, private-sector candidates include Yoon Jong-kyoo, former chairman of KB Financial, and Park Jong-bok, former chief executive of SC First Bank. From the public sector, Eun Sung-soo, former FSC chairman, and Yoon Jong-won, former chief executive of Industrial Bank of Korea, are considered potential contenders. Meanwhile, incumbent Chairman Cho Yong-byung's term expires at the end of this month.
