The People Power Party held a large-scale rally at the National Assembly on Friday, launching an extraparliamentary campaign and public opinion offensive against the Democratic Party of Korea-led special prosecutor bill on fabricated prosecution.
Before the ruling party pushed the bill through a plenary session that afternoon, the PPP held a public rally titled "Citizens' Denunciation Rally Against the Forced Passage of the Evil Law to Cancel Lee Jae Myung's Trials" on the steps in front of the National Assembly's main building.
"Today, Nov. 6, 2026, is the day the rule of law in South Korea died," PPP leader Jang Dong-hyeok said. "Lee Jae Myung alone survives while the Republic of Korea perishes. Lee has abandoned the presidency and become a fugitive from justice."
"The fabricated-prosecution special prosecutor bill they are ramming through is itself fabricated legislation — a law designed to erase a person's crimes the moment they become president," Jang said. "The trials must resume before Lee erases all his own crimes himself."
Jang then led the crowd in chants including "Lee Jae Myung, step down," "Lee Jae Myung, face trial," and "Lee Jae Myung, go to prison."
Floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik also denounced the bill. "The special prosecutor act to cancel Lee Jae Myung's trials is a triple fabrication — fabricating the truth, fabricating language, fabricating history. Is this a country?" Jeong said. "The Lee Jae Myung administration is a vicious fraud regime that deceives the people."
"Dropping the charges is the path to impeachment, the path to resignation, the path to the fall of this administration," Jeong added. "Come what may, President Lee will face the five trials he must stand."
Attendees held signs reading "We condemn the Democratic Party for this evil law canceling Lee's trials," "Resume the trials gracefully," "Resuming Lee Jae Myung's trials is the people's order," and "Strongly condemn Lee Jae Myung's self-pardon," while chanting slogans such as "The entire nation is outraged by Lee Jae Myung's crime erasure."
The PPP said about 7,000 people attended the rally, including roughly 60 lawmakers.
The party plans to hold another citizens' denunciation rally in front of Gyeongbokgung Station on Saturday, continuing its offensive. On Monday, it will convene a leadership meeting and a general assembly of lawmakers in front of Cheong Wa Dae, while individual lawmakers are set to hold one-person protests across the country.
