Actress Cha Ye-ryun, who has flatly denied allegations of school violence, has resumed group-purchase sales on social media.
On Friday morning, the group-purchase links for perilla oil kimchi stew and aprons on Cha's Instagram profile were confirmed to be working normally, directing users to product sales pages when clicked. Cha had been running group-purchase promotions on social media alongside cooking and homemaking content.
When the links were accessed on Wednesday, an error message reading "Page not found" appeared. The issue persisted through Thursday morning but was resolved by Friday.
The access errors emerged after school violence allegations surfaced against Cha, prompting speculation that the controversy had affected her group-purchase activities. However, it has not been confirmed that sales were actually suspended.
The allegations originated from a post published on an online community on Oct. 29, titled "Please stop working, school violence perpetrator who is an actress born in 1985." The author claimed to have been persistently bullied by a classmate while attending Junggye Middle School in Seoul, and said that person is now working as an actress.
Online users identified Cha as the alleged perpetrator based on the clues of a 1985 birth year and Junggye Middle School, but her agency, HB Entertainment, drew a line, calling the claims "groundless."
When the denial failed to quell the controversy, Cha's YouTube channel disabled some videos and comment sections to prevent the spread of unverified rumors and personal attacks targeting her family. Her agency also issued an additional statement on Wednesday, warning of strong legal action and saying it would "thoroughly secure relevant materials and pursue legal review to hold accountable those responsible for malicious defamation and personal attacks."
Since the school violence allegations emerged, gapjil allegations against Cha have also spread through online communities, though the veracity of those claims has not been confirmed.
