Company says two-week clinical trial showed 75.4% reduction in gum bleeding index and 59.7% drop in inflammation index
Dong-A Pharmaceutical has launched the Gumguard Double Effect Original toothpaste, designed to address both sensitive teeth and gum health at the same time.
The new product was developed to relieve tooth sensitivity and prevent gum disease in a single formula. It contains potassium nitrate, an ingredient that helps ease sensitivity symptoms, and the company said it also supports gum health by helping prevent gingivitis and periodontitis.
Dong-A Pharmaceutical said clinical trials confirmed the product's effectiveness for both gum care and sensitive teeth. After two weeks of use, the gum bleeding index fell 75.4% and the gum inflammation index dropped 59.7%. A self-assessment also showed a 40.3% reduction in tooth sensitivity symptoms.
The toothpaste also features a dual-layer formula combining red and white gels. The red layer contains centella asiatica extract, a plant-derived ingredient said to aid recovery and healing, while the white layer includes hydroxyapatite, a compound similar to the natural mineral composition of teeth.
Gumguard is Dong-A Pharmaceutical's gum-care brand, offering a range of specialized mouthwashes and toothpastes. The new product expands the brand's toothpaste lineup, which already includes the Sensitive toothpaste for tooth sensitivity and the Expert toothpaste, a gum-care formula containing 1,450 ppm of fluoride.
